For Us Spoonies, Having A Flare Day Can Make Coming Up With Blog Post Ideas Difficult
I can’t count on my body. My chronic, invisible illnesses mean some days I can’t get out of bed or function. That makes it impossible to keep any type of “normal” schedule. When I need to come up with blog post ideas during a flare it can be difficult at best.
You know what I’m talking about because, as a Spooniepreneur, you have the same experiences.
Notice, I don’t use the word “problem”. That’s because you aren’t a problem, your varied availability isn’t a problem. You are smart, talented, creative. You are accomplishing great things even though your body fails you constantly.
That makes you resilient, powerful and amazing
On those days you just can’t…don’t. You don’t have to be perfect or even close. You just need to be you and share your wonderful “you-ness” with the world. There are other chronically ill people who need what you have to say, they need what you create and share. They don’t want perfection and they sure as hell don’t need any more inspiration porn that makes them doubt themselves.
So on the days, you need to be a productive blogger and write a post, let yourself off the hook. Use shortcuts, hacks, tips and other things to help you do what you need to do in an easier way.
On days I am curled up with my heating pad feeling like the bed wants to swallow me up I still have to try to get some things done. Some are easier than others. Writing takes more out of me so I came up with a list of blog post ideas that are easy to put together when pain and fatigue rule the day.
Here’s a list of 5 blog post ideas you can use:
- Put together a blog post of 5 – 10 of your favorite Facebook posts that make you feel better when you’re having a flare.
- Make a list of 10 places you would rather be than in bed flaring to share with readers.
- Get angry! Put together an “angry” meme post of some memes that help you vent about being laid up with a chronic illness.
- Put together a “wish” list of things you have or want that help you get through a pain and/or fatigue flare.
- Scroll through your Instagram and put together some of the graphics that made you laugh or helped you get through your flare.
There are always going to be bad days and, with chronic illness, there are going to be many more. We may not have control over that but we can try to prepare for those days.
Take baby steps…
If you can’t write, don’t worry. Even if you only write an outline for a blog post you’ve accomplished something. Be proud, you now have less work to do when you feel better.
Do a little hashtag research to use for your Instagram post if you are up to it. A little bit here and there is still better than nothing.
Ask your Facebook group what they want you to write about. People love to help. This will help you get them involved and you won’t have to do much more than copy and paste then rest.
Maybe the tips above will get you through some flare days or maybe you like having a few posts in reserve for when symptoms make writing impossible. However you handle it, is the “right” way. There is no wrong way.
There is advice everywhere
In the blogging world, you hear different opinions about everything. A lot of people say you MUST post a blog post 3 – 5 times a week. Some say once a week or month. Most will tell you consistency is key.
They can all be right and wrong at the same time.
What works for you could be completely different than what flies for someone else. Only you can decide what “schedule” is right for you and what results you are happy with.
My definition of “success” is probably different from yours and that is okay. You rock yours and I’ll keep on keepin’ on with mine.

Done is always better than perfect so write that blog post
So the next time you’re having a flare day, give yourself a break and rest or use anything that helps you get things done (like the ideas I shared above)…even if it’s not perfect.
